Sue Bibby Embroidery

Working in my home studio in Moseley, Birmingham, I produce a range of embroidered items, including one-off textile pieces in varying sizes, cards, brooches and other accessories.

Inspired by birds and wild flowers, vintage book illustrations and domestic life, I use a combination of free machine and hand embroidery to create my individually worked pieces.

I sell through Contemporary Craft Fairs, local Arts Markets and Galleries. A selection of my work is always available through my Etsy Shop. Please contact me if you wish to discuss, commission or privately purchase any items.

I design and make with fabric, stitch and my trusty Bernina sewing machine. My first love is drawing and my work begins with first-hand observation and sketches. I never venture far without a sketch book and find gardens and wildlife sources of endless inspiration, stimulus and excitement.

Having assembled my ideas, spontaneous and precise free machine embroidery allows me to “draw” with the needle, fashioning texture, depth and relief. I use hand stitches to add fine detail and reclaim old needlework techniques to use in  contemporary ways. I collect scraps of vintage fabrics to fashion unique backgrounds for my embroidery, embedding the stories they tell into my work.

I have been a practicing artist exhibiting and selling work throughout the UK since completing my degree in Fashion and Textiles in 1985. I enjoy being part of a vibrant artistic community here in Birmingham. I love to meet fellow makers and I receive immense support and feedback from  appreciative customers.

On this website you can find a selection of my work as well as a list of upcoming events at which I will be exhibiting. Thanks for visiting!
